About the Rurouni Kenshin manga:
Rurouni Kenshin is a set of manga and anime series created by artist Nobuhiro Watsuki, set during the early years of the Meiji period in Japan. The English versions of the OVAs as well as the movie are sold under the Samurai X name.

The series tells the story of Himura Kenshin, who ten years prior was known as the Battosai (Battosai in the English manga and as Battousai in the English anime), a Hitokiri (or "assassin," translated as "manslayer" in the American release of the anime) who helped bring about the downfall of the Tokugawa shogunate which ushered in the Meiji period. As a result, he is often sought after by people who want to either hire him for his skills, or kill him as revenge for his past deeds. Kenshin himself grieves for the lives he's taken, and has vowed that he will never kill again.
